From the summer of 1989, the four radio locations Weimar, Erfurt, Gera and
Suhl were called Thüringer Rundfunk. Thüringer Rundfunk was merged into
Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk as MDR 1 Radio Thüringen at the beginning of 1992.
Until the year 2000, the Funkhaus Weimar produced the state program MDR 1
Thüringen of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk with the studios in Erfurt, Gera and
Suhl.

In May 1988, the name Thüringenwelle was
