For many years, Baden-Württemberg was the only federal state that had two
state broadcasters under public law (SDR - Süddeutscher Rundfunk and SWF
- Südwestfunk).
On August 30, 1998, SWR - Südwestrundfunk took over the broadcasting operations
of SDR and SWF.
Südwestrundfunk (SWR) is a state broadcaster for the states of Baden-Württemberg
and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The SWF is starting its first subregional radio program in
Baden-Württemberg - initially for four years. Mondays to Saturdays, from 10:05
am to 12:00 pm and from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, and on Sundays from 6:05 pm to 7:00
pm, listeners in and around Freiburg can use the FM frequencies 87.9 MHz and
91.1 MHz as well as MW 828 kHz received. The morning magazine provides
information on topics such as the environment, health and economic life, also in
Alemannic dialect. In the evening program, after news and comments, leisure tips
and event information are given in particular. On November 16, 1987, the SWF
Broadcasting Council had spoken out in favor of entering into
subregionalization.
